Born and raised in Sudbury, Suffolk, listening to and buying great tunes from the very early 80's to today. Moved to Amsterdam in 1985 for 2-years where I worked in Club Escape helping build and design their state of the art lighting shows. Heading to Australia in 1989 for a 1-year holiday, where, amongst other things, I got a weekend gig at Players Nightclub in Bondi Beach. That years holiday was now over 32-years ago and i'm still here doing the odd live gig here and there, and finally radio beckons. Those that know me will tell you music is my life, in particular anything Jazz, Funk, Soul or Disco.
Peterborough born and bred I have spent the last 45 years living in Suffolk. My first steps as a wannabe DJ came in '72 at the local Youth Club where I stood in for the resident while he went to the loo, twenty minutes later I was still playing as he had been side tracked and I was hooked.
The Northern scene had just taken off and I went to various All Nighters buying a few records along the way until a brief career in the Merchant Navy took me round the world before I left and found myself here. A different Youth Club, then mobile - doing all the gigs which served as an apprenticeship - followed by residencies before getting married and giving it all up!
Lured back a few years later to play some Old School Soul nights and playing a bit of Northern along the way the offer of internet radio came along in 2013 and I've been there ever since with the occasional Soul Night to keep my hand in.
DJ Fish, a long time friend from here, suggested me for the Northern/Tamla show and here I am. Join me for 'Too Darn Soulful' on Sundays from 3 p.m. where I'll scrape the dust off a few and offer up some background too, I'm no expert but I know what I like and hope you will like it too.
Started dj,ing in and around Hastings since 2018 playing Rare Groove Nights which then has led me into radio in 2020, I've been lucky enough to DJ at festivals around the country. I love to share the music, always searching for a track and love a dance
I was lucky enough to have been born into the original soul family. My mum, dad and 3 older brothers all share a love for Soul Music, singing and dancing.. Being 51 and brought up in the 80's George Benson, Luther and Anita Baker was always getting blasted through the house, along with the likes of Mezzoforte, David Sanborn, Kenny G and The Rippingtons. We all loved our Jazz Funk, we used to dance round the TV Friday nights when Soul Train and Solid Soul was on seeing who could do the best moonwalk(thanks Jeffrey Daniel LOL). My first concert at the age of 13 was George Benson at Edinburgh Playhouse with the family, we met GB back stage as his music brought my brother out of a coma after a horrific motorcycle accident. The whole family would go to soul nights and take over the dancefloor at the Legendary Bobby Jones, where my good friend and dj Bob Jeffries first started. Bob introduced me to Soul Weekenders at the age of 17, my first soul weekender was at Blackpool Cala Gran Holiday Park in Fleetwood, where the likes of Sam Dees, Mary Love Comber, Will Downing, Jean Carne, Gerald Alston and Willie Clayton played. I never looked back, weekenders helped shape my life. I've always been a dancer and then took up singing. I was lead singer in a band called Soul Defanition with my brother Mark, who sang and played drums. I'm also into writing poetry and have written a few of my own songs adapted from poems I wrote. Although music is absolutely everything to me, I never really thought of dj'ing if I'm honest, not because I didn't want to I just didn't think I would be any good and probably best to leave it to the professionals plus I'm more known for being first up and last off the dancefloor LOL. It wasn't until lockdown when a good friend and dj Gary Michael said to me 'why don't you dj with your knowledge you would be awesome' so I thought okay lets give it a go, so I started uploading my mixes to Mixcloud and to my surprise went straight into the Global Neo Soul Charts and was getting amazing feedback which has brought me to here and now been offered my own show on SMR, to say I'm excited is an understatement. I feel blessed and very lucky to be offered this amazing opportunity and I can't wait to get started and play some awesome tunes for you all. Much love, Angie D

My Name is Malcolm Aubrey! I was first introduced to Soul music at a very young age, my father was always playing Jazz, Funk and Soul tunes in the house, and it helped when his brothers were also DJ`s in the States and would send over white labels and imports before they reached the shops over here. I liked what I heard, one of the tunes sent to me from my uncle was Soul Power 74 on a 7" by Maceo and the Macks and it is still one of my favorite tunes in my collection. That is when I decided I wanted to play tunes. My first party I played at was when i was 11 years old and I loved it. I then started playing at a Thursday night youth club and school parties and college disco`s. My first big gig was playing on the island of Rhodes in Greece, only went there for a holiday and ended up playing there on and off for 12 years and loved every minute of it. I had a regular bar and night club playing Jazz, Funk and Soul and I also had my own radio show as well during the day. Being back here in this country I have had the privilege of playing at various events around the country, the one event I look forward to every year is playing at Summer Soulstice - I was invited to play there with an excellent team of DJ`s 6 years ago and love it. My style of music has changed over the years. Now I like playing Soulful House, Latin Beats afro house and anything FUNKY!! My favourite DJ is the one and only Louie Vega.
I am originally from the Glasgow area and moved to Ayrshire in 1974. As a child I would sit enjoying listening to Radio rather watching too much TV and with being at a young age radio was my turning point and that's when I wanted to be involved within the music industry. I have been a DJ for many years covering a wide range of music from nightclubs to cafe bars, to pubs, and done corporate events just to name just a few, as well as DJ.ing overseas. I have worked in many areas of the industry including backstage tech crew aiding famous artists and actors. I also have a vast experience working in retail music stores.. I have also been involved in presenting on Hospital Radio & many others in the past.. I specialise in many genres of Soul within the Soul scene, Hopefully you can join me on Soul Music Radio On Monday and Tuesday afternoons at 1.pm till 3.pm Also you can catch me over on the SMR Dance Station.

I started DJ’ing in the late 80’s playing House, commercial dance, Hip Hop, R&B and UKG throughout the 90’s and early 00’s with residencies in clubs and bars in Essex and Beds as well as many a good night running a mobile setup. I spent most of the 2000’s playing party / commercial music in pubs and bars before hanging up my headphones in 2015. My true love for music goes back to the early 80’s with Soul, Disco, breakbeat and classic Hip Hop (ex breaker) as my true musical passion and it was during the early days of the Covid lockdown that I dusted off the vinyl, got on line and focused in playing what I loved for anyone who wanted to listen. This resulted in me joining Feel It Radio in 2021 as part of their Soulful Sunday team until the station closed in 2024. Im now really excited to be hosting my show on Soul Music Radio, playing the classic and new soul, funk, disco I love.
SoulShyne with Mick Fuller
The sound of SoulShyne has been experienced primarily on the South Coast of the UK but has spread across many parts of Europe and beyond. The music is lovingly selected and mixed by resident DJ and SoulShyne founder Mick Fuller and is aimed firmly at a more discerning listener.
During his career, Mick's adaptability and good musical taste have been the secret of his success, taking in many different styles of soul music in all of its various forms, from Rare Groove & Disco through to US Garage & Deep Soulful House. As a guest DJ, he’s also been welcomed everywhere from international house nights like Soul Heaven & Defected in the House to old school hip-hop jams and original soul sessions.
I always start off with I am not a DJ. I have not grown up DJing at gigs or pubs or clubs or anything like that. Somehow I was invited to ‘present’ a show on a local community station in Essex which gave me the bug for radio broadcasting. Being dragged up in Romford, the birth place of the original Soul Boy, and Perm! While also having an older brother into the scene at the time Jazz funk/Soul was the norm in our house. To be able to present a soul show is a privilege and a pleasure I absolute love. Come and join me every Saturday and Sunday morning 7-9am and I’ll get you out of bed, get you to work or get you home if you had an all nighter. There’s nothing better than any listener messaging and saying ‘haven’t heard this for ages, love it’ or ‘never heard this before what is it’ means we’re doing something right. Come along with me and I’ll bring back the memories of when music was and still is the best and had the fashion to match. You know your in the right place
The year was 1988 and at the tender age of 16, Matthew was at a DJ in a local youth club. The youth club entered him into a DJ competition in which Matthew came first. From this he propelled himself working as a DJ in nightclubs, and ever since this has been Matthew's full time job, he has spun either records, CD's or a digital controller in every city and most major towns throughout the United Kingdom. Catch Matthew for 60 minutes of specially crafted music in the mix, right here at Soul Music Radio every Sat from 11pm.
Started to DJ when I was at school doing family and friends birthdays and at that time had a Citronic twin record deck. Yes I started on vinyl (slate).
Leaving school I started to continued to grow my mobile disco and playing around with sounds and visuals.
Having an interest in electronics and audio I created a road show using projection techniques and it was then I discovered Jean Michel Jarre. He inspired me even more with his shows to add more into mine, with at one point I built a 13 foot man for a fashion show and adding music and fx lighting. From here my show started to grow to at one stage doing events with lighting and music for companies like Jaguar, Fiat, Nissan to name a few. The side of my dj shows changed as well taking a keyboard along with my road show. From here I ended up being a Dj in clubs in east sussex and kent as well as fantastic venues like Leeds castle, Herstmonceux Castle and the Savoy London.
Always at the back of my mind the lighting and creativity side of me wanted to do more, so with some friends of mine we created a projector screen so big we had to make it on a football pitch.
On this I created a dj show with a live orchestra and 6 projectors.
Moving quickly to 2023 I have created a small studio where I now produce my own music that is available on all major streaming sites. My Lighting shows have now grown into multi RGB lasers in sync with music, as well as large searchlights and moving heads.
I am mainly a Producer/ Dj Laser artist and thank Soul Music Radio for supporting my music and look forward to entertaining you the listeners with my Remixes of Soul, Funk, Disco and EDM.
Ex Pirate DJ " The Snake" as he was known back then has been broadcasting for nearly 40 years. Bought his first record in ‘82 and has been hooked ever since. Aged 16 he would hire venues and put on Northern Soul and Motown events in North Kent. Transporting equipment and vinyl on a Vespa was tough but once he passed his test at 17 he bought a van and expanded the operation across the South East and Central London. He was guest DJ for other promoters incl. the famous 100 Club All Nighters for, arguably, the King of Rare Soul Ady Croasdell.{ Kent Record Label } He DJ’d for Kent Soul Club and at many Scooter Rally Soul events. Whilst his passion for Motown and Northern Soul is still strong he is just as likely nowadays to play Disco, Jazz Funk, 2 Step, Rare Groove, Modern Soul, Latin and Soulful House He was a mobile DJ for 30 years before resorting back to his love of all things soul and has held residencies at several South East Nightclubs including The Legendary Swan, { aka Caesars } on the Old Kent Road. Currently hosts a monthly event the OLD SOUL ROADSHOW in West Wickham ( Now Into its 15th Year ) Where he plays a mix of Funk - Disco - Jazz Funk - Crossover and Rare Grooves from 1975 to early 90. A founder member of Palace Radio, a talk based platform for Crystal Palace FC which ran for 12 years. He would interview fans, players and management and would commentate on matches and be used as a pundit. This led to becoming a sports journalist / broadcaster and tech op for Capital Radio where he stayed 5 years waxing lyrical on his other passion of football for Capital Gold, Invicta FM and KMFM covering Gillingham matches. He also enjoyed sporadic appearances for the BBC as Co Comentator when a Crystal Palace expert was required. In addition to his long running monthly gig he organises a couple of soulful charity events each year. His most recent project raising over £700 for St Christophers Hospice. James has DJ’d at Margate Soul Festival for the last 5 years, most recently at the Wig and Pen, Market Square. For 15 years he owned a record shop in South London called Python Sounds, which also traded PA equipment. Early 2023 he teamed up with a pal to produce a reworking of Garfield Fleming’s – Don’t Send Me Away under his alias “ Soulboy Jim “ which has received really positive reviews. Watch This space as another few on the way. He recently started a fortnightly Mailshot informing members of all soul gigs in South East London and North Kent area. Finally its been said he has THE PERFECT FACE FOR RADIO { hence the hat n glasses remaining on in his photo } Just a regular bloke really that is more than a little obsessed with Soul Music !

I am from the North West of England. I've been collecting and listening to music since the early 80s, influenced by soul music played on radio back then from Richard Searling, Robbie Vincent, Andy Peebles, along with the underground stations back then, plus the amazing venues and soul weekenders.
Shaping the love of this music into my favourite genres Rare Groove, 2 step, 70s Modern/ Crossover and 80s/90s independent /contemporary mellow soul. The passion for this music is still present today and will never go away. I just love soul music. Today's midtempo music is just unbelievable even with the change from major to independent labels to now artists bringing the music out themselves via the digital age. I love my vinyl, however the key is not the format anymore it is ensuring that the music is quality with a Capital Q.
I have my regular venue which I DJ at, along with guesting at weekenders and other gigs.
I've been in radio in some format since the late 80s and in last decade now presenting my own shows.
It's an honour to be on this station playing this amazing music.
If you love your warm, sophisticated and mellow midtempo tunes. Looking at classics, rare and underplayed from these beautiful music genres, then please hop on and take a ride with me looking at a journey of Soul Across The Decades from the late 60s to the present day and beyond.
See you every Thursday 11pm - 2am
Regards
Gary.

I started my Dj career as a dancer, for one of the big Djs in kent. And one night he was called up to the mangers office, and he asked me to put on a few records while he was upstairs. He was gone quiet some time, so I started playing the tunes that I would dance too. A doorman came up to me and asked me to announce for a vehicle to be moved. I was petrified but found it was a good feeling. By the time the Dj had come back I had the dancefloor packed. He asked me if I fancied being his warm up Dj every week after that.
I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time, and carried on warming up for some of the big Djs on the scene. I worked on the Kent Soul Festival and a Pirate radio station. I then started putting on my own nights and promotions, bringing in Artist that were going to be the next big thing. As well as established artists. And I soon found myself working in Big clubs in kent & London and ended up travelling around the U.K holding residencies In Guernsey and Nottingham. I fell in love with the midlands and soon established myself in the midlands and moved up there. My love of the music has always been my driving force, I have worked commercial nights as well as specialist nights. I grew up on the Jazz-Funk and soul scene. And when I went back on radio I went back to my roots.

From being a schoolboy and spending almost every penny in Black Wax Records in Streatham, buying the latest 7 inch import singles, to now, soul music has always been my passion.
From the early days of doing mobile discos, weddings, birthdays, youth and social clubs, to playing some of the top nightclubs in London, and despite hanging the headphones up on a few occasions, the passion has always been there.
All these years later and to now have the opportunity to play the music I love, for people who love the music, it doesn’t get much better than that.
I started out DJ'ing at my local youth centre back in late 70s and doing gigs as a spotty roadie. Building up a large 12" collection which I still have today, music has always fired my soul and when I got the opportunity for my own show on Zero 7 years ago I jumped at it. Since then I have played at some awesome gigs such as the Margate Soul Weekend, Lagoona Soul, Boutique Soul and Campsoul. Running my own promotion called Souleaze, partnering with TonyMac and playing regularly in our home town of Stevenage, working alongside some top names such as Greg Edwards, Louie Martin, Dr Bob Jones, Sean French, John Jules, just to name a few. Not forgetting my mentor and tutor Les Adams, who taught me so much, I was truly blessed. I have been told my show has a unique style, I love that, it's all about the music and the artists, I like to add a bit of info about them, the weirder the better. My passion is for uptempo music, from Jazz Funk from back then to Soulful House today, but nothing beats seeing people enjoying the music with me. My show is called The Soul Soundout, reason being I like to sound out the wealth of new music out there and bring it to you, mixed in of course with some favourite Old Skool. So join me, BP, Wednesday evenings 7pm right here on your Soul Music Radio.
I Started way back in my teens (early 80's) Djing for friends and also putting on a few gigs (Soul Music of course)..Then after taking time out to start a family. I decided I needed to get back into the soul scene. Firstly doing warm up at a local event and then leading on to doing a regular Soul Night at Roberts Night Club for around 4 years. My passion was to get into radio and was invited to sit in on a show on zeroradio. Loved it and was given my own show The Soul Armoury was born..14 years later still going strong. Looking for a new challenge I was offered a show on Soul Music Radio and jumped at the chance... I'm loving doing radio and hope you can join me every Sunday evening from 5pm...Its still making a bang...
Veteran soul and funk Dj Al Bendall AKA Al B is still very much active in his home city of Bristol’s pub and club circuit and says he has no plans to quit yet. It all started when he walked in to a bar during the late 70’s and heard Movin’ by Brass Construction and immediately fell in love with the funk. He started DJ'ing in 1979 and had his first residency at a Bristol nightclub called The Turntable.
Fast forward to 2023 and co-promotes the popular“Soul City Bristol” club night.
Highlights include working alongside the legendary Roy Ayers, djing in Ibiza, Marbella and Tenerife, appearing at the Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show and at Funky Nation upstairs at the world famous Ronnie Scotts, London.
Has been a radio presenter for over 15 years on FM, DAB and internet radio stations playing mostly original 70’s and 80’s Funk, Jazz Funk, Soul and Disco classics, and more recently Nu Disco, Remixes, Re-edits, Soulful & Funky House.
Hi I am host of The Lynda Law Soul Show, a weekly trip down memory lane of the best 70s and 80s Modern Soul music there is and music has been in my blood for as long as I can remember.
I started singing and learned to play the electric organ when I was 7 and never let it go after that.
I always wanted to sing with Gino Vannelli, so one day I contacted him, explained who I was and what I stood for in music.
Gino invited me to Los Angeles to sing a duet with him for his album 'Inconsolable Man', a single called Moment To Moment and I featured on two more songs on the album.
I also approached superstars like Jimmy James, The Drifters, Edwin Starr and George McCRae.
In the 90s I had 2 chart hits in the UK and across Europe.
My idol in music is Anita Baker but I am personally influenced by any soul based performer that touches my heart. Anyone that has longevity:
To quote Rodney: “I have been a DJ for quite some time”. Rodney started out, playing youth clubs at 15 years old, eventually getting into the mobile disco circuit – which is where Rodney is still very active and very much in demand currently – entertaining crowds at weddings events, private functions, local bars, and clubs in and around Bristol and Bath. Rodney’s break in radio was originally with Gloucester FM, He has also worked with several other FM stations in and around Bristol. His show is best described as “throwing yourself into the music”! Rodney rustles up a unique mix of Classic and 21st Century, Soul, RnB, Disco and Funk – with a gentle splash of Reggae. Rodney enjoys hunting out great new releases for you to enjoy, great covers, re-edits and a host of classic and retro sounds.
